Costilla County Civil Docket Searches
The caption, summons, or case paper should identify the court and case class. Costilla County Court handles limited civil and small-claims matters. Costilla County District Court handles general civil matters and specialized classes such as domestic relations, probate, juvenile, and water. Both courts work through the same Costilla Combined Court clerk. Municipal courts do not hear the ordinary private civil claims covered here.
Use the free Costilla-filtered Judicial Docket Search to check an upcoming setting. A state-designated vendor register gives an informational chronology, but no free pleading images. Costilla Combined Court provides the official register, order, judgment, or other filed record.
- Select Costilla County, a date range, and County or District Court when known.
- Enter a full party name or the complete year, class, and case sequence.
- Use C for County civil or CV for District civil only when the case paper confirms it.
- Read each result as a hearing setting, not as proof that a motion or claim was decided.
- Request the register or exact civil document from the clerk when a filing or outcome must be verified.
Costilla Civil Docket C and CV
Colorado case numbers split into year, class, and sequence. In Costilla County, C identifies a County Court civil class and CV identifies a District Court civil class. Other civil-related classes include DR for domestic relations and PR for probate. These letters route a search. They do not disclose the facts or result.
| Class clue | Court or category | Safe reading |
|---|---|---|
| 2026C123 | County Court civil | Limited civil category; inspect the file for the claim. |
| 2026CV123 | District Court civil | General civil category; the letters do not state disposition. |
| DR or PR | District Court specialist class | Access can differ because confidential material may be involved. |
Preserve every digit and letter. Costilla calendar sequences vary in length, and some state sequences use 30000-series formatting. A single setting can also display several public party rows. Count by case number, date, and hearing type rather than treating each row as a separate action.
Civil Dockets: What They Show
A Costilla County civil register of actions is the dated index to case activity. It can show the court, class, filing date, status, public party roles, counsel, pleadings, service, motions, orders, settings, judgment, dismissal, and post-judgment events. The free docket is narrower. It shows date, time, duration, public name, case number, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom.
| Case Number | The year, class, and sequence that identify one Costilla civil record. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Plaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent, when public. |
| Filings | Complaint or petition, summons, service return, answer, motion, response, and notice. |
| Settings | Date, time, duration, type, appearance mode, and courtroom for a scheduled event. |
| Outcome | Order, judgment, dismissal, satisfaction, appeal, or remand when recorded and accessible. |
Document images do not come with the public Judicial Branch calendar or commercial register access described by Colorado. The clerk must supply the filed pleading, order, or judgment. A hearing transcript is separate from both the calendar and register.
Costilla Civil Docket Return Mornings
Costilla County publishes a rare, specific scheduling detail: civil return dates are Mondays at 11:00 a.m. A return date is a response or appearance setting linked to a summons. It is not the trial date for every claim and does not show that judgment has entered. The summons and current court notice remain controlling.
Costilla calendar check: Compare the summons with the current docket. If the date, appearance mode, or courtroom differs, contact the clerk before relying on an older copy.
The researched calendar also includes Case Management Conference, Status Conference, Rule 120 Hearing, Court Trial, Hearing, and domestic permanent-orders labels. Each describes a setting. A Rule 120 hearing concerns authorization of a foreclosure sale under Colorado procedure; it is not a final ruling on every possible dispute between the parties.
Note: A scheduled civil return or motion hearing describes what is set, while the register and resulting order show what the court actually did.
What Cases Fill the Civil Docket
Costilla civil activity spans more than one court class. District Court has general civil jurisdiction. County Court handles civil claims within its jurisdiction and small claims. Domestic relations, probate, juvenile, and water matters are District Court classes with their own procedure and possible access limits. The case number and caption are safer routing tools than a guess based on the dispute.
- County civil claims shown with the C class.
- District civil matters shown with the CV class.
- Small claims within the County Court system.
- Domestic relations matters using the DR class.
- Probate and other specialized District Court categories.
Municipal courts are not a substitute civil forum for these claims. San Luis and Blanca municipal clerks keep ordinance and municipal citation records. Ordinary civil records remain with the Clerk of Court at Costilla Combined Court.
Costilla Civil Docket Outcome Terms
Civil entries must be read as a chain. A default request is not always the final default judgment. A dismissal may be with prejudice, which ordinarily bars refiling that claim, or without prejudice. A settlement may lead to dismissal even when its terms never enter the public file. Satisfaction records payment or release status; it does not erase the original judgment.
- Default judgment
- A civil judgment entered after the required basis and process for default are established.
- Dismissal
- An end to some or all claims, with scope and refiling effect stated in the record.
- Satisfaction
- A post-judgment record reflecting payment or release status.
- Remand
- An appellate court sends the matter back for further trial-court work.
If a judgment entry is unclear, request the Order for Judgment and the register. A Transcript of Judgment is a distinct clerk product with a $25 charge under the researched request form. A Certificate of Satisfaction costs $20, while certified or exemplified copies carry a separate $20-per-document charge plus applicable copy fees.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
A filing can create several settings as the Costilla civil case moves from summons and service through answer, case management, motions, trial, and judgment. A continuance changes a date but does not erase the earlier event from a complete register. A request to continue is not proof that the judge granted it. Compare the latest order, notice, and live setting.
Read date, start time, estimated duration, hearing type, appearance type, and courtroom together. VIRTUAL and NO APPEARANCE REQUIRED are explicit values. A blank appearance field does not grant remote attendance. Costilla uses several courtroom codes, and those codes are not street directions. The fuller date workflow appears in the Costilla County Court Schedule.
Costilla also posts different WebEx rooms for domestic relations, advisements, water matters, and visiting judges. Use one only when the current court direction authorizes it. Call 719-672-3681 if a reset, mode, or room cannot be reconciled from the newest record.
Federal Civil Dockets Outside Costilla
A civil dispute tied to Costilla County can still be filed in federal court if federal jurisdiction exists. Those records do not belong to Costilla Combined Court. The U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado uses CM/ECF and PACER. Bankruptcy matters use the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado.
The Colorado Bankruptcy Court supplied the first assigned civil-docket image.
That court is a separate federal custodian, so a bankruptcy docket will not appear in the Costilla County civil court calendar. The District of Colorado's CM/ECF portal supplied the next assigned view.
Federal docket reports and linked filings use the federal account system, unlike Colorado's split state model of free settings, vendor registers, and clerk copies.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Public access depends on Colorado law, court rule, directive, and any case-specific order. Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs remote access, court-only categories, exclusions, corrections, and vendor responsibilities. Colorado Rule of Civil Procedure 121 section 1-5 addresses limited access to civil files. Juvenile, probate, protected identifiers, and sealed or suppressed material can require restricted handling.
Costilla access boundary: Public does not always mean remotely downloadable. The clerk applies the controlling rule and order to the official civil file.
The Colorado Supreme Court oversees statewide rules and directives. The official Colorado Supreme Court source supplied the assigned image below.
That statewide authority sits above Costilla's trial courts, while requests for a Costilla case file still go to the local Clerk of Court.
Official Costilla Civil Docket Records
The official Colorado trial-court request form accepts a Costilla location selection and a precise record choice. Options include Register of Action/ROA, Order for Judgment, Transcript of Judgment, Satisfaction or Certificate of Satisfaction, protection orders, and other named documents. The form states an ordinary response within three business days unless circumstances require more time.
Costilla Combined Court also accepts questions by costillaclerk@judicial.state.co.us or 719-672-3681. The counter is at 304 Main Street in San Luis, and mail goes to PO Box 301, San Luis, CO 81152. Current public hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except state holidays. Confirm cost and payment method before mailing money.
Plain copies cost $0.25 per page. The $15 maximum applies only to parties and their attorneys, not to nonparties. Name search costs $5. Off-site retrieval is billed at actual cost, and research or redaction is $30 per hour in fifteen-minute steps after the first hour. Exhibits and transcripts can require separate handling.
Note: Ask for the narrowest document that answers the need, because a calendar result, register, judgment, certification, and transcript are different products.
