Run a Costilla County Docket Search

Start with the right tool. A Costilla County docket search can serve two different goals: finding the next public hearing, or pulling the dated history of a case. Pick the search that fits your goal, and use the case number whenever you have it. If the number is unknown, party and attorney name fields still work. The Costilla Combined Court clerk holds the official case record, while the public calendar shows no filed documents. Municipal matters sit with each town separately. Restricted records may call for a direct request and proof of identity.

Name-Based Case Searches

Colorado's free Judicial Docket Search covers public hearing settings rather than every past case. Enter a party, business, or attorney name. Then pair it with a date range and Costilla County. Go slowly here. A common name can pull in unrelated docket entries. A single hearing can also show up in several result rows when more than one public party is listed on the case.

  1. Choose Costilla County and a date range suited to the expected hearing.
  2. Select Individual or Business, then enter the available name fields.
  3. Use Court Type, Courthouse, or case class to narrow the result when needed.
  4. Match the court, case number, hearing type, date, and courtroom to the notice in hand.

Treat a name match as a lead, nothing more. Confirm it by case number and court. When no future hearing is set, the free search may return nothing at all, even though an older Costilla County file still sits with the clerk.

Costilla County Docket Search Fields

The Costilla-filtered Docket Search asks for a date plus at least one more filter. County can be that second filter. Beyond that, the interface offers District, Courthouse, Court Type, Division, case-number segments, party data, business data, and attorney data.

The entry point matters. It separates a free hearing lookup from vendor register access and an official document request to the clerk.

Case Number Searches

A Colorado state case number has three parts: a four-digit year, a class, and a sequence. A form example looks like 2019T999999. The Costilla County docket also carries formats such as 2026CR..., 2026M..., 2026CV..., and 2026DR.... Enter each piece in its own field. Don't stretch a code past what it says. CR points toward a District Court criminal class, while M and T mark County Court misdemeanor and traffic classes. C and CV separate county and district civil classes, and DR, PR, and JV cover domestic, probate, and juvenile classes. The code names a system category only; it says nothing about the merits or outcome of the case.

Costilla County Case Search Codes

This year-class-sequence format is a strong shield against common-name mix-ups. Keep the leading letters and every digit intact. Costilla County results include short sequences and some 30000-series numbers, so altering the displayed form can return the wrong case or none at all.

CR
District Court criminal class, commonly used for felony cases.
M or T
County Court misdemeanor or traffic classes.
C or CV
County civil or District Court civil classes.
DR, PR, JV
Domestic relations, probate, and juvenile classes, with access limits possible.
R
A County Court criminal or infraction-type class seen in the public system.

Know only part of the number? Pair the class and sequence you have with Costilla County and a likely date. If that fails, ask the clerk's search channel instead of guessing at missing digits.

Case Search Results Explained

The free result is a hearing card. It tells you when and how a public proceeding is set, and that is all. The full ROA, charge history, counsel data, final disposition, balance, and linked pleadings do not appear. None of that detail is here. A hearing label states a purpose, not proof of what happened in court.

Date and start timeThe scheduled hearing date and time, with duration shown separately.
Public name or styleThe displayed party or case-style row; several rows may refer to one setting.
Case numberThe year, class, and sequence used to identify the matter.
Hearing typeA label such as arraignment, plea hearing, status conference, or jury trial.
Appearance typeMay state VIRTUAL or NO APPEARANCE REQUIRED; blanks occur.
CourtroomA schedule identifier such as 1, B, C, FCF, WW, or Z.

Export Results and Printable Version let you save a result set. Refresh the live Costilla County search before any hearing, though, because an old export will not show later court action.

Costilla County ROA Search Layer

The Judicial Branch e-filing and public-access explanation says designated vendors furnish real-time registers of actions for civil, water, small claims, domestic, felony, misdemeanor, and traffic cases. CoCourts.com and LexisNexis are the named public-access vendors. Vendor fees and account terms may apply.

The state's public-access explanation is shown in the assigned source capture.

The split is plain. A vendor ROA is a real-time informational chronology. Filed documents and certified records still come from Costilla Combined Court. Colorado Courts E-Filing, or CCE, serves authorized filing and service. It is not a public image library. Someone who needs an order, complaint, judgment, or official ROA should use the state Record/Document Request Form. Or contact the clerk.

Costilla County Official Case Record

The Clerk of Court at Costilla Combined Court keeps the official state trial-court file. You can reach the clerk through the web request form, by email at costillaclerk@judicial.state.co.us, by phone at 719-672-3681, in person at 304 Main Street in San Luis, or by mail at P.O. Box 301, San Luis, CO 81152. The form promises an ordinary response within three business days absent extenuating circumstances. When access law allows, the clerk can provide an ROA, a named filed document, or a certified copy. A vendor screen cannot certify anything. No copies come through the vendor register. For a San Luis or Blanca municipal case, route the request to that town's municipal clerk instead. Note: Identify the court, case number, and exact document before requesting a copy, so the clerk can locate it and price it correctly.

Two Ways to Search: County and State

Colorado runs no separate Costilla-only case database. The state Judicial Branch provides the free calendar and routes ROA searches to designated statewide vendors. Costilla Combined Court supplies the official local record. These are layers of one state system, not rival county and state portals.

Costilla County Search Security Levels

Colorado e-filing sorts records into five security levels. They are Public, Protected, Restricted, Suppressed, and Sealed. Each label controls who may open a record and how. The levels do not give every filing the same reach from a home screen. Some Costilla County material sits at a court facility or with authorized users only. The official e-filing security-level explanation lays out that full framework.

A blank public screen proves nothing. When a Costilla County record never appears online, that alone is not evidence it never existed or was sealed. Whole categories carry limits or identity checks. They include juvenile, adoption, and dependency files, some probate and protection-order material, and protected personal data. The official request page warns that some restricted requests may require a government-issued photo ID. Plan for that before making the trip.

Costilla County Municipal Search Fallback

Neither San Luis nor Blanca publishes an online municipal docket. The issuing court is named on the citation, so read it there. San Luis Municipal Court runs through Town Hall at 719-672-3321. Blanca Municipal Court is listed through Town government at 719-379-3461, with fax 719-379-4762. A town ticket never becomes a Costilla County Court case. Both courts sit in the same county. That alone changes nothing. Ask the municipal clerk about the setting, the case record, the disposition, or how copies are made. Does the paper name Costilla Combined Court instead? Then go back to the state docket and Combined Court channels.

Which Cases Stay Restricted

Colorado Chief Justice Directive 05-01 sets the main public-access policy for state court records. Judicial Branch law and directives govern case files. The Colorado Open Records Act is not a way around the court process. Civil access can also be limited under Colorado Rule of Civil Procedure 121, section 1-5. Criminal records may be sealed. Title 24 procedures govern that.

No result has several possible causes. The court, date window, spelling, or number may be wrong; the case may have no future setting, belong to a town court, or have restricted remote access.

Ask the custodian first. If access is denied, ask for the authority behind it and any procedural route that remains open. Some Costilla County restrictions are categorical, others need review by the court, and the official record controls any correction.

Costilla County Federal Case Search

Federal cases never sit in the Costilla Combined Court file. Costilla County falls under the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Federal docket reports and documents run through PACER or the court's CM/ECF system. Bankruptcy goes to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado. The official PACER gateway is the account-based place to start.

PACER gateway for a federal Costilla County case docket search

This federal route is entirely separate from the Colorado Costilla County calendar. The state's designated ROA vendors and local clerk requests sit outside it too. Location alone does not pick the court. An event in Costilla County does not make a case federal. Read the court name on the caption or notice. A state case stays in the Colorado channels unless it was actually filed in federal court.

Costilla County District Court Search

The official District of Colorado website covers federal court operations and the route to its electronic filing system.

District of Colorado homepage for federal Costilla County case search routing

Check the court homepage before starting any PACER search. It confirms whether a case truly belongs to the federal District of Colorado. State and federal records have different custodians. Costilla Combined Court cannot issue a federal docket sheet or filing. The federal clerk, in turn, keeps no Costilla County state ROA. So hold the caption and case number intact. The search will not drift into the wrong system.
