San Luis Court Docket Searches
The Town publishes no online municipal docket, citation search, calendar, payment form, or record request form. So the printed court name becomes your first search tool. A citation addressed to Town Hall goes to the San Luis Municipal Court Clerk. A state notice addressed to Costilla Combined Court belongs in the Colorado Judicial workflow instead. Both buildings sit on Main Street, but their files never merge.
Treat your phone call like the search form the Town never put online. Before dialing, write down the full San Luis citation number. Add the name exactly as printed. Include the listed ordinance or charge, and note the response date. Then say plainly what you need. A clerk routes a request for a current setting differently from one for the full San Luis municipal file. Careful notes also help you avoid mixing up a Town matter with a state case. That state case merely carries a San Luis mailing address.
- Read the court name, address, case or citation number, and appearance date on the paper.
- If it names San Luis Municipal Court, call the municipal clerk and have the full name and citation number ready.
- Ask for the current setting, charge or ordinance, plea or disposition status, balance, and copy method.
- If it names Costilla County Court or District Court, use the Colorado Judicial Docket Search with Costilla selected.
- Confirm any changed date with the clerk that holds that exact file.
A state search that returns nothing for a San Luis town citation is normal. It does not mean the town case ended.
Two San Luis Court Record Counters
San Luis hides a practical trap. Town Hall, at 408 Main Street, houses the Town Municipal Court. Costilla Combined Court sits at 304 Main Street. Each office has its own phone numbers and clerks. A person can stand in the right town yet ask the wrong office. Both addresses say San Luis and sit close together.
| Office | Address | Record |
|---|---|---|
| San Luis Municipal Court | 408 Main Street, PO Box 200 | Town ordinance and municipal citation cases |
| Costilla Combined Court | 304 Main Street, PO Box 301 | Colorado District and County Court cases |
Read the address on the notice as a venue clue, and keep the case or citation number with it.
Inside San Luis Municipal Court
San Luis Municipal Court handles alleged violations of Town ordinances. That includes municipal traffic and code matters within its jurisdiction. State felonies, state misdemeanors, County Court traffic cases, general civil suits, domestic relations, probate, and juvenile matters do not belong there. Those cases route to Costilla Combined Court even when the event happened inside San Luis.
The official San Luis Municipal Court page names the office and its clerk channel. It posts no docket days, court hours, fees, online pleas, or fine schedules. Without a portal, direct confirmation matters. Ask the clerk what documents the Town can supply. Ask also how it accepts a record request.
Town jurisdiction also limits what the municipal clerk can tell you. The clerk may find the Town citation. But the clerk will not hold the Costilla County Court misdemeanor or the District Court felony from a different event. If the clerk reports no municipal match, reread the caption. Do this before concluding the record is absent. For a state case search, use the year, case class, and sequence printed on the state paper. The Costilla Combined Court clerk can then supply an official ROA or filed document.

No San Luis Municipal Portal
With no online San Luis calendar, the lookup order changes. Skip the commercial name searches. Do not assume the free state docket covers town cases, because it does not. Begin with the citation and the municipal clerk. Keep the full name, citation or case number, and listed date ready. Share protected identifiers only when the clerk asks through an approved channel.
Ask for a precise product: current setting, ordinance or charge, plea or disposition, amount due, docket or case summary, filed order, or certified copy process.
These products differ. A setting tells you when to appear, a docket or summary tracks events, and a filed disposition order states the result. San Luis has published no single fee schedule covering all of them, so ask the clerk before quoting a price.
Finding San Luis Court Dates
A San Luis municipal court date comes from the citation, the notice, or the municipal clerk, since the town posts no public calendar. Use the state docket only when the case is a Costilla County or District Court matter. In either system, asking for a continuance does not change the date unless the court grants it.
| Date | The appearance or hearing date stated by the Town citation, notice, or clerk. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed appearance time; no general San Luis docket-call time is published. |
| Location | Town Hall for municipal matters unless a current notice says otherwise. |
| Case Number | The municipal citation or case identifier, whose public format is not published. |
| Setting Type | The arraignment, hearing, trial, compliance, or other label stated by the court. |
Call 719-672-3321 before the deadline if the paperwork is unclear. Only the San Luis court can confirm or move its setting.
A reset should bring a new instruction from the San Luis court. The form of that instruction is not published. Keep the original citation together with any later notice. On a confirmation call, ask the clerk to repeat the date, time, appearance method, and location. Write down whom to contact if you need a written copy. Remember that requesting more time is not itself a new San Luis court date. Silence from an online state search has no effect on the municipal setting.
Missing San Luis Citation Results
A San Luis ticket missing from Colorado's free docket still has a home. Check the court and address printed on the ticket itself. Town Hall means the municipal file. An address of 304 Main Street means Costilla Combined Court holds it. The police agency that wrote the ticket matters less than the court caption. That caption settles the venue.
- Check whether the citation says Town of San Luis or State of Colorado.
- Preserve every digit of the citation and the printed deadline.
- Call the municipal clerk for a town case.
- Call the Combined Court clerk for a state case.
A blank screen does not pause your duty to appear or respond. Call the court named on the ticket before the due date.
San Luis Traffic Ticket Lookups
A traffic ticket written into San Luis Municipal Court stays in the municipal record. The Town posts no citation lookup. It posts no online payment form either. Call the municipal clerk. Ask about the hearing date, the balance, your plea options, and how to pay. The Colorado state payment search does not take a San Luis town citation.
Read before you pay. A payment is not a neutral account transaction. It can carry a plea or judgment effect under the citation and court process. To fight the charge, follow the appearance instruction. Contact the San Luis court before the deadline. The Town publishes no fine schedule, deferred option fee, or defensive-driving offer.
For the county-wide split between venues and files, see Costilla County traffic court records.
Already paid? Keep the receipt. Ask the San Luis clerk how the money was applied. No public balance screen exists through the Town. Need to prove the final result? Request the municipal disposition or another filed order. A receipt alone will not establish the result the court entered. When a ticket names Costilla County Court instead, the venue shifts. The state clerk and state payment portal control. That keeps the payment, the plea, and the record together. Everything stays inside one San Luis or state case system.
San Luis Town and State Cases
Municipal jurisdiction rests on Town ordinance authority. County Court handles state misdemeanors, county traffic, limited civil cases, and small claims. District Court takes felonies plus general civil, domestic, probate, juvenile, and water matters. One clerk serves both state levels at Costilla Combined Court, while the San Luis Municipal Court Clerk keeps the Town file.
| Paper Names | Likely Search Path | Custodian |
|---|---|---|
| Town of San Luis Municipal Court | Call or visit Town Hall | Municipal Court Clerk |
| Costilla County Court | State docket, then Combined Court request | Costilla Combined Court clerk |
| Costilla County District Court | State docket, vendor ROA, or clerk request | Costilla Combined Court clerk |
This three-way check is more reliable than searching a name across unrelated systems.
How San Luis Cases Reach the County
A town-code matter begins in San Luis Municipal Court and stays there unless a lawful appeal or a related case moves activity elsewhere. A state case arising in San Luis starts at the proper Colorado trial-court level. It never passes through Municipal Court first.
Docket flow: San Luis Municipal Court › Costilla County reviewing court when law permits › Colorado appellate route as applicable.
For ordinary state matters, the path runs separately: Costilla County Court or Costilla County District Court, then the Colorado Court of Appeals where jurisdiction permits. An appeal creates a new record, so save both case numbers. The municipal clerk remains the source for the original Town file.
San Luis Municipal Appeal Records
An appeal does not rewrite the old town citation. It does not turn it into a routine County Court traffic file. The lower court may show a notice of appeal, record designation, or transmission. The reviewing court assigns its own number and logs its own activity. Ask San Luis for the municipal record and the reviewing clerk for the appeal file.
Each record answers a different question. The San Luis file shows what was charged, set, heard, and decided in Municipal Court. The reviewing file holds the appeal notice and the transmitted record. It also holds briefs or other permitted submissions, plus the reviewing court's action. Searching a name at only one level can miss half the trail. Keep the San Luis citation number. Keep the municipal case number too, if it differs. Keep the appeal number. Each office certifies its own record. Do not ask one court for another's file.
The federal Tenth Circuit page shows a federal appellate system that is entirely separate.
That federal page works as a boundary marker. A normal San Luis municipal appeal never begins in the federal Tenth Circuit.
Who Can See San Luis Court Records
Colorado law and court rules may open municipal court records to the public. Public does not mean everything appears online. San Luis publishes no online record viewer at all. Sealed material and protected identifiers stay outside ordinary disclosure. So do categories restricted by law or order. When access is limited, ask the municipal clerk for the procedure and the legal basis.
Key rules:
Colorado Open Records Act provides a public-record framework for government records.
C.R.S. ยงยง13-10-101 et seq. supplies Colorado's municipal-court structure.
Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs access to state court records and helps explain why state case access follows its own route.
A town request should name the case and product sought without publishing private identifiers.
Older San Luis Court Records
For an older San Luis municipal file, start with the Town clerk. Age alone does not move a case into an archive. Ask whether the Town still keeps the docket, the filed order, and the recording. Ask about a copy too. Or ask whether another custodian holds them now. Historic and federal records follow their own retention paths.
The National Archives at Denver holds certain older federal records. It is not a routine Town citation counter.
That federal archive page shows why you must identify the original jurisdiction and its custodian before requesting any old record.
